Villafrechós Hourglass (15 min)

This hourglass is a reproduction of one dating from the 18th century, found in Castile, in the Convent of Villafrechós (Valladolid), author unknown.

These clocks were used in Renaissance Europe to mark the arrival of citizens at civic events. They accompanied teachers to the classroom along with their books and manuscripts, and marked the time of domestic prayers, and of public speeches and sermons.
