H109 Astronomical Ring
Brooch or pin reproduction of the Astronomical Ring.
Known as the Annulus Astronomicus Astronomicus Astronomical Ring, the full name of this instrument is the Universal Equatorial Ring. Its principle is that of the universal type Equatorial Solar Quadrant.
This portable instrument can be used for astronomical measurements and to know the solar time at any latitude.
H111 Horizontal Sundial
This French portable clock (1800), in the shape of a shell, is calculated for 50° of latitude.
On the time scale, the hour lines radiate from the face of the Sun. In the center was a hole where the gnomon went.
The original, in copper, is in the Maritime Museum, London.
H112 Navicle
Portable sundial, signed by the French mathematician Oronce Finé, 1524.
Due to its shape of a small ship, it was called "Navicula of the Veneto". Its fanciful appearance does not diminish its conceptual rigor, and relates it to the Regiomontanus time quadrant.
The original is in the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, Milan.
